Dental Implants

A dental implant is a titanium screw that is used as an artificial substitute for tooth roots to anchor a single crown, bridge, or denture in your mouth. The implant is placed in your jawbone by one of our dentists. In most procedures, the implant is placed during one appointment and after it heals, the crown, bridge, or denture is applied. Most patients are surprised by how remarkably similar implants feel and look like their natural teeth.

What are the advantages of implants over other procedures?

  • Implants feel like natural teeth. You can do most things – laugh, talk, eat, and smile – as you did with your natural teeth with confidence. With denture-supported implants, for example, there's no risk of dentures popping out at embarrassing times.
  • The integrity of your facial structure is preserved. With missing teeth, you may lose bone structure in your jaws, causing your face to shrink and age. Implants prevent the collapse of the bone structure over time.
  • Preservation of healthy teeth. Implants do not require the grinding of adjacent teeth to support them, as is the case with bridges. There are also no clamps putting pressure on surrounding teeth, as with partials.
  • Easier hygiene. Dental implants are easy to maintain. Simply brush and floss as if they were natural teeth.
  • Restored self-esteem. A healthy, natural smile, without fear of awkward dislodging or visible artificial structuring, makes implant patients feel more confident.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most people in good general health are candidates for dental implants. The main concern may be if there is any bone loss and whether there is enough bone structure to support an implant. Even in extreme cases, however, our dentists can perform procedures to replace bone structure for implant treatment. Call our practice to schedule an appointment with Dr. Tippit, or Dr. Gayle so they can evaluate your condition.

Will my insurance pay for dental implants?

In most cases, yes, although it is up to your individual policy. If your insurance allows you to request alternative benefits, a policy that covers dentures or partial dentures may also cover dental implants. Since you are ultimately responsible for paying for all of the services you receive, please review your policy before your appointment.
